A unique Loft Community born from the Newnan Cotton mill in the heart of Historic downtown Newnan.
In May of 1888, approximately nine acres of land just east of downtown Newnan was purchased by W.B. Berry, for the construction of the Newnan Cotton Mill. Ground breaking for the mill took place on July 13, 1888, and in March 1889, it officially opened and began production. The mill consisted of many buildings, including a picker house, dye house, testing house and a garage. There was also a workers village which was housing provided by the mill. During World War II the mill was completely devoted to manufacturing yarns for the national effort and awarded the Army-Navy “E” flag a symbol of excellence for their role. In the past century the Newnan Cotton Mill has been a constant in the fabric of the Newnan landscape, providing jobs and opportunities for the citizens of Newnan and the surrounding area. In 1950, the Newnan Cotton Mill employed hundreds of workers, but by the 1960s, the mill was used only for storage and continued to function as a warehouse until 1995.
